ITINERARY
The tour will begin at 8:00 am from your hotel pick-up to Gateway of India, Mumbai. From where, you will board a boat for a scenic one-hour long boat safari. On the other side of this ferry ride, an exciting toy train awaits to take you the pint from where real cave excursion begins. You are required to climb up 120 steps for impressive glimpses of exquisite architecture of the 7th century. After climbing 120 steps to the plateau, explore the massive hall at the entrance of the cave. This hall is supported by large pillars will a large “Mahesamurti” stature will greet you.
The main attraction of this island is the three-headed Shiva Statue. There are other sculptures of Lord Shiva as “Shiva Nataraja” & “Ardhanaroshvara” forms are also been found. This 60,000 sq. feet cave is made up of natural rock. The structures of all seven caves are really magnificent. Due to the never before and never again structure of these caves, UNESCO has declared Elephanta Caves as a World Heritage Site.
These caves are filled with rock-cut temples which are from the 5th century CE. This island was named by Portuguese as there was an elephant statue located near the landing area of this island. After an amazing half-day Elephanta Caves excursion, have some snacks at the local eatery before boarding the boat at 12:30 pm. Reach the harbor of Gateway of India by 02:00 pm from where you’ll be transferred to the hotel.
